Everyday Moments

Tuesday, January 27, 2015
Waking up consists of being nosed by Mordechai on the side of the bed. When it's super cold or he's particularly tired, we have to nudge him from the couch.

Makeup, hair, getting dressed. The norm. Even our bathroom has insects.
If it's the weekend, you can bet there will be brunch. I recently made almond flavored waffles topped with toasted pecans. This recipe called for whisked egg whites and then to fold them in. It made for a really fluffy batter!
Our morning walk with M. We take him to the downtown area of restaurants, cafes, and bars near us. I like to watch the people getting their morning coffee, going for their morning run, dropping off their dry cleaning...
Elevator ride up to my office to start the day!
Phone calls, emails, production schedules, some mundane things and some fun things like meetings with brides and grooms, lunches with vendors, and being creative from time to time.
By the time I get home, I walk M and feed him, but there's normally about another hour or twos work to get done for the blog editing that I do on the side. And maybe I'll read a little bit, binge watch a TV show like American Horror Story, or write in my journal which I've been trying to do at least weekly. I used to write daily when I was in high school. In college I wrote weekly, and now that I'm a 9-5 person, I've been writing monthly. It's kind of terrible; what's the point to having a journal if I only update monthly? Might as well just look at my Instagram at that point for more life updates.
Hangs with Mort.
Last walk of the night with M downtown.

When I first started blogging, capturing every day moments with my camera was one of my favorite things. I loved being able to see the beauty in what sometimes can look so mundane. 2015: I want to take those daily photos again. And write in my journal. And document the little moments that I love to look back on.

  2. Love your post! Love that you have a blue morpho in your bathroom (what better way to start your day than looking at the beauty of a blue morpho...?!)....off to google 'The Drunken Botanist' [sounds like it could be my kind of book - the botany, not the drunkenness ;)]

    1. hi helen! thanks much! i do love being surrounded by beautiful insects - it always reminds me of the beauty in nature! as for the drunken botanist - i love it so far. i'm about halfway through and it discusses all of the different ways to use flora and fauna in drinks. i took an ethnobotany class in college so i've always been fascinated on how to use plants as people. :)

  3. Such a lovely post! I agree that the everyday moments are the heartbeat of our lives, and I'm glad you'll work to capture more of yours. Looking forward to seeing more of those moments here. And we've started making our waffles with whisked egg whites... Our latest recipe had club soda too. So tasty and fluffy!

  4. So first things first: you have the cutest dog in netherworld. Seeing M makes me wat a greyhound more and more! (Since you told me about the cat thing, I may or may not have looked up local greyhound rescues in my area and forwarded said info to the boyfriend at least 5 times.)

One of the big reasons i originally stsrted blogging was because I was craving some sort of daily documentation. It's nice to have something to look back on and help you remember.

  6. i love the little everyday moments myself too. those are ones that when we look back will really jog our memories of where we were, what real like was like. i think even if you write in your journal once a month it's better than nothing! i often have these specific goals and if i don't reach them i just stop. i really wish i'd written in a journal once a month since i gave it up years ago because i wasn't writing frequently enough.

that M is so sweet. xo

    1. You! Dear! Happy Birthday! I hope your day is spent relaxing with your boys and the rest of your weekend is the same.

I find that when I write in my journal once a month, it's rushed and I'm trying to get in all that I did and have been up to so that I remember what I've done. But when I write every few days, I write in such great detail about my emotions and feelings, it's so much more satisfying like a catharsis, and to look back on it. :)

Either way - Big hugs! Xoxo!

  7. Ha, funny timing, Jeff just made those beaten-egg-white waffles the other weekend too, and I thought he was so crazy for spending that much time on the ingredients (if you can't tell, I am an boxed waffle mix kind of person). They did turn out pretty yummy, though. How did you make them almond-y? Extract? Love these little moments, mostly because they seem so contented, and there is plenty of Morty! xo

    1. yes! my waffles have been so flat lately so i needed something to make them fluffy. i added almond extract, but i think next time instead of 1 teaspoon it might need two, it wasn't too flavorful without the nuts themselves :)
