This Week

Friday, June 27, 2014

This week:
-Packing a little bit every day things we do not use on a daily basis.
-Bridesmaids shenanigans at the brides engagement party. We don't sit still.
-Visits to the greyhound adoption organization to pet some lazy dogs. I may have made friends with a three year old girl with black fur and the friendliest demeanor.
-Eating popcorn and watching scary movies late at night.
-Driving by our new house and enjoying the new neighborhood, imaging all the tree-shaded walks that will be had in the evenings.
-Drinking tea 3-5 times a day, just to soothe my nerves about moving. I rotate between hibiscus tea that tastes like summer time and earl grey that reminds me of winter mornings with my aunt in New Jersey.
-Streaming the World Cup and thoroughly enjoying the sports spectacle.
-Never unpacking my overnight bag since it feels like I just got back from Corning, now we're off to Buffalo and Canada, and the weekend after that, we're off to South Florida. Bon voyage!

Visiting Friends + The Picture of Success

Tuesday, June 17, 2014

This past weekend I visited a friend and previous co-worker in her current home of Corning, NY. We used to work together and she moved up there to work at their world renowned glass museum. I picked the perfect time to visit because while the weather was a high of 90 degrees in Florida, we enjoyed a breezy 58 degrees day in the mountains and on the lake, hopping from breweries to wineries.
We started the trip with an intro to Corning and their downtown area on Market Street. It reminded me a little bit of our Winter Park area with the brick roads and cute shops. Although, I loved that downtown Corning pretty much had any kind of food you could want in one location. There was pizza, Indian, breweries, and Thai all within walking distance. All of the buildings were so cute and well maintained, it was picture perfect with mountains in the background.
We took the opportunity to meet up with 3 other friends that happened to be in Manhattan on Friday so we all met up. We explored Manhattan, visiting Momofuku Milk Bar, Chelsea Market, and even witnessed a parade of nudist bicyclists after happy hour. Only in NYC!
My friend is moving back to Florida in two weeks, so together we were obsessively checking rental properties online. While away, S went to an open house that I sent to him. A little two bedroom house on a corner lot with a huge oak tree in the heart of downtown Thornton Park. Thornton Park is the cutest brick-lined neighborhood just outside of downtown Orlando surrounded by lakes and parks and restaurants and bars all in walking distance. There is street after street of cute bungalow houses with porches and colorful paint.  Our little find has hardwood floors, a screened porch, a dining room that our walnut dining table deserves, and walking distance to shaded parks and lakes that our future dog will love. Today, we got approved for the house! The next month will be spent packing and sorting. If you've seen my Pinterest lately, you'll see that we're already thinking of midcentury paint colors and tips on how to make packing easier. After getting settled in the new house, we can then start making our home cozy for a retired racing greyhound!

Currently // 1

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

My days lately have looked like work, cook, eat, sleep. Event season was in full swing and with a slower summer just beginning, I am looking forward to relaxing soon. For a while, I was completely enveloped in the busy season and my never-ending to-do list.
We visited Charlotte, NC over Memorial Day and we've visited our hometown numerous times. We haven't had a weekend to breathe and we won't have another one until mid-July.
I'm dreaming of summer walks and visits to our favorite parks and restaurants outside. I'm also dreaming of a house... with a dog... a very particular dog.
In order to collect my thoughts that are so frazzled lately, I thought I'd let you know what I'm currently up to. Currently...

eating // a ton of seafood. it is summer here in florida and light and fresh fish is the best meal. on tonight's dinner menu is salmon, simple with cracked pepper and grey sea salt.

drinking // english breakfast tea, every morning and every night. sometimes i get crazy and heat up a shot of almond milk to add in.

practicing // my french on weekends with my handy duolingo app. you never know when we'll decide to go back to paris.

mastering // the art of house hunting. looking for 2 bedrooms, hardwood floors, a fenced yard...

learning // about the gentle breed, greyhounds.

finishing // the latest season of orange is the new black - and i've been avoiding social media hoping to not get spoiled by all of those who breezed through it in one weekend.

reading // Adopting the Racing Greyhound

enjoying // longer morning routines and mixing up the evening routines.

listening // to nothing. lately i've been driving to work and home in silence. it's nice after a noisy day at the museum.

walking // instead of taking the elevator in our four story museum. don't get excited; the elevators are too crowded with children and strollers now that school is out.

needing // a change of routine. needing a sense of family with my chou-chou.

wearing // tank tops and leggings or boy shorts as soon as i get home. and bees in my hair when it's a warm day.

cooking // in the crockpot lately. some molasses and sriracha pulled pork and even some chicken tikka masala.

wondering // about our future... envisioning our new home and pet...

working // and finally getting a legitimate lunch break after weeks of eating at my desk because we were that busy.

travelling // this weekend to corning, new york and manhattan too! and later this month? to buffalo, new york and my first time to canada!

thinking // about welcomed change.
