Better than you'll ever know

If you have seen my Instagram, then you know that we finally had to say goodbye to the beagle that I grew up with. I was a wreck with tears on Monday, and when I came home early from work yesterday, I slept so deep that when I woke up, I thought it was the next day. I skipped cooking dinner, I skipped yoga, and we went to see a movie instead. I do the same thing every year on 9/11 too; I spend some time in a dark theater with a massive screen to distract me. Work has also been a great distraction, but I am finally feeling better. I woke up this morning looking at Scout's picture and felt more calm and content than these previous days. I'll be back to my regular self in no time.
I'm writing this on my balcony with a steaming cup of coffee and the first cool breeze of autumn. When the weather matches my fall-spirit, I know it's going to be a good day.
Lastly, thanks to all of my friends and readers that had such kind words to write about Scout on my Instagram. It made me feel better than you'll ever know.

  1. I'm so sorry for your loss! Losing one of your pets is so hard. I lost both of my childhood pets in the same year and it was devastating. I'm glad you're starting to feel better though. <3

  2. Holding you all in the light. I'm glad you're good at taking care of yourself, but I know how hard these days are. XO

  3. scout was so adorable. i am so sorry for your loss. it sounds like you are doing all the right things though - letting it be what it is (sad) and distracting yourself a little bit too. much love to you. xo

  4. I was so sorry to see that Instagram, darling. Pets are such a huge part of the family, I know how hard it can be to say goodbye to one. It's the price we pay for having them in our lives, the good comes with the heartache. I know he was a great dog and he knows how much you adored him. Take gentle care of yourself, Yelle. xo

  5. Sending you all of my love! I handle things like this much like you do. I pretty much want to spend time watching something else to keep me away from my reality for a while. I'm glad you're healing and you'll always have your memories <3

  6. Sending love your way! xo Loss is hard but you will never lose the memories.

  7. Oh dear I am so sorry to read about your pup! As a pet owner myself, I can't even begin to think about the fact that statistically we'll have to outlive our pets. I can't ever think that my cats will eventually get older... I wish you a string heart that will heal in time...
