Exploiting Summer

Monday, July 23, 2012
Summer is about the only time in which I can eat salad. Salads feel too light, fresh and colorful to be eaten in fall or winter time. So of course, while summer is coming to a peak with it in the 90s these few weeks, salads in our house have been plentiful. This particular salad had cooled orzo pasta, cherry tomatoes, basil, onions, chickpeas and fig infused vinegar. What a treat it was to come home to this salad. I also packed it up in my mason jars to take to work.

DIY When You Least Expect It

Friday, July 20, 2012
I'm all for DIYing, in everyday life, and not just for events or entertaining. I've recently discovered the DIY wooden palette upcycling trend on Pinterest. A few weeks after finding amazing pieces working so well with all kinds of decor, I came into some palettes for myself! Stay tuned to find out if I just hold on to them until we have more space, or if I find a creative way to use them as a coffee table or couch base somewhere in our full apartment!

Homemade for the Masses

Tuesday, July 17, 2012
One thing I will always love in a restaurant is their ability to make their own pasta in house. Every year four our anniversary, we go to the same gastropub that is changing its menu every month. And every time, I feel the need to try their pasta that month. I have to say, I am never disappointed, and always inspired. Whether it be there truly unique squid ink pasta with scallops and bacon, or a savory gruyere biscuits, perfect with their salted butter. It is truly inspiring to visit restaurants like that, and I hope you continue to be inspired as well!

Fried Cous Cous

Friday, July 13, 2012
The perfect summer consists of fresh ingredients and tart cheeses. This recipe consisting of couscous, formed into a patty with chickpeas and fresh parsley, topped with goat cheese, aside a pasta salad as good as moms, was the perfect picnic dish.

Independence Festivities!

Monday, July 09, 2012
A few years ago, we found out by mistake that around 9:00 pm our lovely town does a fireworks show, and that we can see the entire show from our balcony! So this year we invited all of our coworkers, mine and S's, to come by for drinks, food, and to watch the show! In previous weeks my coworker and I got together for cheese, crackers, champagne and chalkboard painting. So I brought out all of my chalkboard painted platters, plates, signs, displays and described everything that was being served. Including a tortilla chips, salsa, and queso platter, white sangria labeled, hibiscus cooler recipe, and a beer menu. Over all we had a great turn out with lots of delicious leftovers too!
